Come and Pray with me. It’s not only your mobile phone that needs recharging!

Most of us find prayer and bible study difficult and we dread being asked about our prayer life. It’s like being back at school and not having done your homework. I think its fair to say how we struggle to find time and inclination in our non-stop modern day lifestyles to spend time with God without being distracted. Now the Benefice has that opportunity for you to spend sometime with our friends and God. Wouldn’t you love to spend time on a regular basis, initially once a month, but in the Church’s Season of Advent and Lent we may meet weekly. Now is the opportunity to discover the gift of silence that leads to intimacy with God. In silence it is easier to hear God, as noise can be like a spiritual pollution drowning out his voice. Our times of silence can be a real investment.
Try it yourself Spend one minute in silence. Notice the thoughts that crowd into your mind. Keep giving these thoughts to God, so that you can focus on him. Spend a further minute just relaxing and enjoying his company. In time, as you get used to silence, you will begin to enjoy it and be able to spend longer in God’s company in this way.
Prayer Lord, help me to make you my priority – the centre of everything I say, think and do today. Help me to respect my body and to use my energy wisely. Show me those things you are calling me to do and those things I need to say ‘no’ to. Help me to trust in your timing, to be led by you and not be driven by own desires and ambitions. Help me to hear and be obedient to your ‘still small voice’ whispering into every corner of my life.
What will we do We will meet in Wigginton Church at 7.00 pm for 30 minutes, we will create a prayerful atmosphere with the use of lighting and background music. We will have a short time of relaxation followed by silent prayer finishing with an informal Eucharist.
