Music in worship at St Mary's
|
The St. Mary’s Church Choir is an extremely dedicated and enthusiastic group of a dozen or so singers who enjoy leading the worship in a blend of traditional and more contemporary styles, both at the Sunday morning Eucharist and, quite unusually in York nowadays, at Evensong each week. Occasional Iona and Taizé services vary the diet. The choir can also always be relied upon to give a really strong lead in the singing at weddings. St. Mary’s boasts a delightful church organ, as well as a Clavinova for more modern musical genres, and a superb acoustic! From January until July each year, choir rehearsals are held fortnightly from 9.15am until 10am on Sunday mornings before the 10.15am service. After an August break, rehearsals take place fortnightly in September and October on Wednesday evenings in church from 7.30 until 9.00pm; in November and December, these Wednesday evening rehearsals are weekly. The regular members of the choir are delighted to be augmented by other singers for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols just before Christmas each year. Do come and join us – you can be assured of a very warm welcome!
