‘Scrufts’ Dog Show

Regrettably, and because of the ongoing Covid situation and uncertainty regarding social distancing rules, timelines etc. going forward it has been decided to cancel the ‘Scrufts’ dog show for this year.

Thank you to those of you who gave generously during June to enable the work of CareCent in York.  Our next delivery from Haxby and Wigginton will be on 7th July. If you would like to donate food items, cash or cheque, Alyson Christy is  happy to collect from you.  Items required include:  soft butter spreads, fresh cooked meat slices, individually wrapped chocolate bars, multipack crisps, individual cartons of fruit juice, and satsumas or bananas.  CareCent will be restarting their ‘Place of Welcome’ and are looking to recruit new volunteers to brew a cuppa and share a listening conversation. Details are available on request.  Thank you kindly.

‘Renew our World’

Following the G7 summit in June and through to the COP26 in Glasgow this November, there will be a monthly ‘Pop-up Prayer’ session as an act of witness in response to the growing concerns about climate change.  This is a Tearfund initiative, offering an opportunity to pray for our planet.  The first meeting is next Saturday 10th July from 10.30 am outside St Mary’s Church.  All are welcome.  See posters for full details.

School Uniform Bank

This is an idea to recycle school uniform which children have grown out of and which could be made available for other children.

If you have clean, good quality uniform, PE kit

or school shoes you can drop them off at the Methodist Church on 27 July (10am to 4pm) and if you would like to pick up new uniform this can be done on 30 July (10am to 4pm).

This venture is being co-ordinated by Lorraine Jones from Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church.

Lorraine is also keen to hear from anyone who could help on any of the days from 27-30 July to receive, sort or help on the day. If you could help or you have any questions, please get in touch with her at or on

07850 631168.   Please put these dates in your diary and come along to support this great new venture if you can.
